Leeper, Sylvia Burns – Age 95 of Lobeville, TN. Died on January 27, 2010 at Summit Memorial Hospital in Hermitage, Tennessee after a heart attack on January 26, 2010. Sylvia is preceded in death by her her husband John T. Leeper (1972) and her first husband Guy Dudley (1952). She is survived by son Bobby Burns Dudley (Julia), Lobelville, TN; daughter Joyce D. Sircy (Bob), Nashville, TN; grandchildren Bobette Dudley, Nashville, TN; Jackie Smith, Nashville, TN; Michael Dudley (Sonya), Lobelville, TN; Jodi Osborne, Dallas, TX; great grandchildren Taylor and Addison Dudley, Lobelville, TN; and numerous extended relatives.
Sylvia was born November 22, 1914 in the community of Beardstown, Tennessee, the only child of Simpson and Ola Shepard Burns. She worked as a nurse at the old Perry County Hospital and for many years with Dr. Earl Salhany at the Lobelville Clinic. Sylvia taught piano to several generations of Perry County children, inspiring them with her love of music. She volunteered at the Lobelville Library and at the Perry County Nursing Home where she entertained the residents with her piano playing. Sylvia was a cancer survivor and a supporter of Cancer Relay for Life . She was a lifelong member of the Lobelville Church of Christ. Sylvia was proud to be from Perry County which she considered to be the the most beautiful place on earth and loved being greeted as “Miss Sylvia” by young and old. She continued sharing her love of music while she was a resident at Belvedere Commons in Hermitage, TN where she played piano almost daily.
Visitation for Sylvia will be held at McDonald Funeral Home, 366 S. Main St., Lobelville, TN on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 3 to 7pm; and on Saturday, January 30, 2010 from 12 to 8 pm. The funeral will be held at 2pm Sunday, January 31, 2010 at McDonald Funeral Home in Lobelville, Brother Hoyt Kirk officiating; burial will follow at Burns Cemetery, Beardstown, TN. Memorial donations may be made to Lobelville Church of Christ, 40 N. Main St., Lobelville, TN 37097.
